eVTOL aircraft are significantly quieter (electric vs. turbine), produce zero direct emissions, and are designed for lower operating costs at scale. Top speeds are comparable at 150–200mph, but current range is shorter. They operate from vertiports rather than helipads.
As of 2026, EHang (216) holds CAAC certification in China and is operating commercially. Volocopter has received EASA special conditions approval. Joby, Archer and Vertical Aerospace are in advanced CAA/FAA/EASA certification processes.
